This past Friday, many immigrant students cheered and gathered at the Colorado Capitol after the House passed a bill that allows students who came to America illegally to pay lower college tuition. Governor John Hickenlooper is expected to sign the bill sometime this month. For most of the immigrant students, Colorado is all they know. It has become their home and that is what they have become accustom to.
The bill had been opposed many times over the past decade. But after many trials and tribulations, it was finally passed. The bill allows students who graduate from Colorado high schools to attend college at an in-state rate. Currently, the students who came to America illegally must pay out of state tuition. Colorado is amongst 12 other states that have passed laws to allow illegal immigrants to attend college at an in-state rate.
"The bill would allow students who graduate from Colorado high schools to attend college at the in-state rate, regardless of their immigration status. Currently, students in the country illegally must pay the nonresident tuition rate, which can be more than three times higher than the in-state rate."
It is nice to see that some states are trying to take the initiative by tackling situations such as this one. However, I do not completely agree with it. It is contradicting in many ways. Illegal immigration has been a huge issue in the United States. However, now they are trying to provide financial help those who came to America Illegally.

Illegal immigrants are not the only ones who struggle with paying for college tuition. There are many students who come from out of state and they have to pay out of state tuition. There are also many students who worked hard throughout high school and during college and financial aid and scholarships still do not cover their out of state tuition. To my knowledge, the government nor the state tries to help those students to their full potential or allowing them instate tuition for that matter. It's a bit contradicting if I do say so myself.
