Last Friday, An award was to be presented to Egyptian Activist, Samira Ibrahim and many other women by Secratery of State John Kerry and First Lady Michelle Obama. Ibranhim, amongst the many other women were forced to take "virginity tests"after being detained during a protest in Cairos Tahrir Square in March 2011. She brought worldwide awareness to the tests which gained immediate attention from the United States government. However, they found that her Twitter account included many anti-American and anti-Semitic statements. Ibrahim initially claimed that her Twitter account had been hacked and that she was not the one who made those statements. She expressed her anti-Semitic views and support for international terrorism through her tweets. According to Kerry, he hacking claim was dubious due to the time and duration of the tweets.
"Today is the anniversary of 9/11. May every year come with America burning." The tweet was deleted a couple of hours later, but not before a screen shot was saved by an Egyptian activist.
After further investigation, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland went on to say that the reward was not presented nor will it be presented. The tweets were first reported by The Weekly Standard. Further investigation determined that the other women were more deserving of the awards and honor.
"Ibrahim initially claimed she had been hacked. But now she is defiantly refusing to apologize to what she calls the "Zionist lobby in America" for her "previous anti-Zionist statements."Ibrahim had initially claimed that her twitter account had been hacked. However, she is refusing to apologize because she clearly agrees with the statements that were made on her twitter account. Whether she did make those statements or not, she still agrees with them which brings me to believe that there was an ulterior motive behind all of this. There is no way someone with such hatred towards America would want to gain their attention and respect for something positive.
